Steven was born on Wednesday. On Thursday morning I found out my dad was admitted to the hospital for a heart catheter to clear a blockage found in some stress tests he had taken earlier that week. Ends up the blockage was too close to an important junction so he was scheduled for an emergency bypass on Friday. Ends up he had a quadruple bypass... very scary... but he's doing fine and regaining his strength. I'm blown away that he still says he has no pain... just a litle soreness. Hopefully he'll be released from the hospital before the SuperBowl so he can watch it from the comfort of home.

Never have I experienced a week with such highs, lows, and then highs again. Friday was very hard as he had his surgery at a different hospital across town than where my wife and Steven were staying. All in all, quite an experience. The stress has definately taken it's toll... I'm emotionally spent... looking forward to the coming weekend for some naps and next week off of work (I didn't take this week off because I've been involved in a lead role on a huge SharePoint-MCMS project that launched Monday morning and I felt like I needed to be a part of that).

I do have to mention one thing about the *geek* factor (maybe Scoble will see this as he turned me onto MoBlogging). As mentioned in previous posts, I have a Treo 650. Anyone who's had a baby knows one of the hardest things to deal with is spreading the news quickly enough to the right people. I wanted to be a little different and more effecient: Two days prior, I sent a mass email around to friends, family, and co-workers about the website I put up for Steven (www.stevenconnell.net) as well as a note to watch my moblog for the first news. While I was in the nursery minutes after he was born, I let my brother take some pictures with my phone of us in the nursery. After I left him to get cleaned up (and after I had my immediate fill), I rushed downstairs to see how my wife was doing in recovery (she delivered by c-section). After making sure everyone was a-ok, I rushed to the nearest window and posted four quick pictures to my moblog... one with the weight and length. I was able to get these pictures out one hour and roughly 15 minutes after he was born. Then I made three quick phone calls and a few hours later, had the chance to send an email, post some images, and a announcement post on his website. However, the moblog was the best... I've heard stories about some of Meredith's friends constantly refreshing the site to see any updates. We actually received about 45 "congrats" emails before I made the first email announcement! It was way cool.
