Fantastic, incredibly detailed, content on content deployment by Stefan

This past week I was in Redmond teaching my WCM401 development class in an open-enrollment scenario. Aside from a fantastic class with some very eager and interactive students (can you tell I love talking about MOSS Web Content Management & Publishing sites?), I also met up with some friends for dinner Wednesday night. Got to see some old MSFT friends again like Arpan, Joel, Jean-Paul and Owen as well as some folks I had only rarely seen in the past like Ryan Duguid & Angus Logan (both recent down-under transplants to Redmond) and meet new people. The treat though, I have to say, is ~finally~ getting to meet Stefan Gossner who happened to be in town at the same time.

If you are a MCMS developer and don't know Stefan, same on you (just kidding :) )... you must not use the invaluable resource known as the CMS newsgroup. If you are a MOSS WCM developer and don't know Stefan... I'm sure you will over time. Stefan and I have talked a bunch over IM and email throughout the last few years... even co-authored a book together... but I had never seen the man in person. FINALLY! Unfortunately we didn't get to visit quite as long as I had hoped (classic positioning challenges at the dinner table in a quaint Italian restaurant). As we were on our way out, Stefan mentioned he had a handful of blog posts he was publishing soon about content deployment. With the limited info out there on it, I was eager to see them and though "ok, should be good to have something out there" as while the SDK contains some samples, that's all there is in the public domain.

HOLY CRAP... THESE THINGS ARE INCREDIBLE! His four-part blog series is fantastic showing you how to use the content deployment API to export and import content but also to do it in a very granular and fine tuned process. For instance, he shows you how to pull content out of one site and put it in another site, but changing the parent in the destination. The content deployment API provides the greatest level of flexibility opposed to the browser interface. It's quite impressive.

RUN, DON'T WALK to this fantastic series that will definitely be on my WCM linkfest in the next update.
