Managed Windows Shared Hosting

If you're a SharePoint developer, Microsoft is hosting two conferences early in 2008 that may be of interest to you. I'll be attending both of these. I attended ODC2006 and was really impressed with the content... I think you will be to... should be a blast!

Are you a MOSS 2007 WCM / Publishing site developer and planning to hit both/either of these? Drop a comment and let's see if we can't setup a little WCM developer round table!

Office System Developer Conference 2008
February 10-13, 2008 - San Jose, California

Microsoft Office System Developer Conference 2008 will bring together architects, developers, industry technical experts, Microsoft insiders and key partners in a public forum for the first time! Together, we will redefine what it means to be focused on Microsoft Office development, exchange ideas on how to continue innovating in this ever-changing space, and share best practices on how to craft the next generation of Office Business Applications.

Still thinking Office development = VBA? From composition to Software + Services, collaboration to VOIP, Open XML to Silverlight, and everything 2.0, this pivotal conference will cause you to include the Office system as an integral part of your solution development toolkit – right up with Visual Studio and managed code, the O’Reilly Books and Petzold.

SharePoint Conference 2007
March 3-6, 2008 - Seattle, Washington

Sure, it's the same week as that little conference called MiX, but who wants to hit that if you're a SharePoint developer? Hey... you do SharePoint, so why shouldn't you attend the SharePoint conference? Register today and get a 25% discount on your registration!

[Update 10/8 @ 2p] One thing to note is that the SPC2008 is more admin / end-user / information worker focused while the ODC2008 is mode developer focused.

Gravatar I am starting at a new job in a couple of weeks. They said that I might be able to go to a couple conferences, but they said something about having an allowance of $2,000. I am looking at some of the prices and it looks like maybe I could go to one. I wish that I could go to all of them. I was wondering what would you suggest is the best one out of the entire year: Sharepoint Connections, MS Office System Developer Conference, or the MS Sharepoint Conference of 2008?

Gravatar Becky-
Good question... the other one I'd throw into the mix is TechEd... but that will likely bust the $2k budget (assuming travel is part of that budget). I'd put it as a toss-up between SPC & ODC. If you are a SharePoint developer, then I'd look at the SPC as your primary one as that is not only THE SharePoint conference of the year, but that is also where you'll see the greatest concentration of SharePoint field experts and MVPs most likely. ODC is real appealing to me because I expect a strong OBA push and focus there, as well as using SharePoint as an application development platform.

Gravatar There is an alternative to the high-priced conferences. The Regional SharePoint Users Conference is being held in the DC area on October 27th and 28th. It only costs $125 and all proceeds go to the Children's Miracle Network. The hotel is offering a very reasonable $89/night rate for all attendees. The deadline for that rate is 10/15 (today).

We have a great program lined up including our keynote speaker, Ed Hild, author and Microsoft employee.

More details can be found at http://www.sugdc.org/events/conference.aspx

Unfortunately comment spammers are just too effecient and are constantly dirtying up blogs with irrelevant and unwanted comments trying to improve their standing on search engines. All comments on this blog are moderated. I do not censor comments, but I don't approve comments with vulger language or those soliciting products. Most of the time comments are approved within a few hours of being submitted with the only exception when I'm traveling.

Why are you asking for my email address?
The only reason I'm asking for your email address, which isn't required to submit a comment, is to provide a gravatar if you've created an account for yourself and associated your email address with a small image. If you have a gravatar created for the email address you submit, it will appear next to your comment. Otherwise nothing will appear.

What is a gravatar?
A gravatar is a "globally recognized avatar." You can get more information about gravatars, as well as create your own for free, at www.gravatar.com. You can also view my gravatar here.
