The Insanity of SharePoint Licensing and WSS/MOSS post SP1 hotfixes

Seems I'm turning into the regular Spence fanboy. :) If you read/subscribe to my blog and you're primarily a SharePoint developer, you really need to make sure Spence's feed is also in your OPML subscriptions. Not only one of my good friends (and quite involved in the book). Spence has two killer posts that he recently put up.

The first talks about licensing. You know, the funhouse all consultants love when the customer meeting takes a turn to what license and how many CALs do I need. Personally, I pull the developer card as often as possible and point customers to their Microsoft account rep. But just like no developer can be 100% ignorant to administrator / IT Pro topics and vice versa, if you're a SharePoint consultant, you can't just be ignorant / stupid about SharePoint licensing. Spence has a good case study -esque post up that would serve everyone well who's looking to stand SharePoint up for public facing sites (ala Publishing sites).

The second post is already flagged in my FeedDemon for me as it contains lists of all the hotxies / rollups available for both WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 since Service Pack 1. Always amazed me that MSFT doesn't include a list somewhere in TechNet or on the KB site for each product and the entire history of updates available... even if you have to call about them!
