Recently you’ve seen a few people use a sample MOSS 2007 WCM site that Microsoft had a partner develop them. The site, Adventure Works Travel, is one that I’ve used in demos at TechEd EMEA in November 2008, the SharePoint Best Practice conference in London in April 2009 and TechEd US in May 2009 in addition to a few MSDN articles I’ve published (like this one). Finally you can download it too!

The sample, used for the SharePoint On the Web training series, is now available on CodePlex MSDN Code Gallery! Best part, this is available as a download so you can install it on any SharePoint virtual machine you’ve setup.

I like using this site for my demos as it is a real world Publishing site. There are custom Web Parts, custom styles for the Content Query Web Part, custom navigation, a custom Silverlight application that asynchronously calls back to a custom WCF service hosted in the SharePoint Web application, leverages FBA… you name it. It’s a great site to poke around!

Scroll to the bottom of the CodePlex MSDN Code Gallery project’s download page to get the installer:

Will there be (or is there currently) an Adventure Works sample site for download that is for intranets?

Gravatar Thanks for the post! Didn't realize that there was an actual finished site with the package.

Will AdventureWorks be released as a collaboration site? I could sure use it to not only demonstrate features to the staff, but to experiment with.
(We're a small (10 employees) nonprofit, so a test environment/setup is out of the question)

Gravatar Nice, but the codeplex file only contains the wsp files. Is it possible to get the complete code for the project?

Thanks in advance!

Gravatar Mike-
No... this is the only planned release. Also, you can download the virtual machine MSFT provides at mssharepointdeveloper.com to kick the tires. It doen't have an intranet site setup but you can easily create one.

Gravatar Not to be really picky but the download is not on CodePlex ( Microsoft's Open Source Community Site ) but on MSDN Code Gallery ( Where source is not neccesarily open )

Gravatar damm that's a shame, i was really hoping the source code would be release for this. I saw the site being used in demos at the UK Sharepoint conference and was really looking forward to seeing how the cool stuff was implemented.

Gravatar Installer hangs in the middle. Waste of time. Unfortunately there does seem to be a manual way of setting this up. Frown...

Gravatar Is any one able to install it at Microsoft Virtual PC.

What are the changes required in following files

1. AdventureWorks.InstallWizard.exe.Config
2. profiles.xml
3. ContentAndStructure.bat

Installer gives error at step 3 of 14.

If any one able to install it successfully, please let us know how you installed it?

This is not the place for support for the AdventureWorks site... I've had no problem setting it up... sorry you're having trouble.
