Enhance SharePoint Document Libraries with Custom Solutions

Join me on my search for custom or 3rd party solutions that can add advanced functionality, like workflows and auditing, to SharePoint document libraries.
The SharePoint (WSS & SPS) OOB document library is very simple and straightforward. But, what if you need more functionality like a full blown document repository complete with workflow, auditing of views and edits, and document and/or folder level security?
I’m doing research for some solutions… anyone have custom solutions or 3rd party solutions to suggest?
