Over the course of the last few months, we’ve started to see a surge in interest on topics related to Microsoft Office development at local community events in Florida. This interest is ranging from VSTO to SharePoint. We’ve seen more and more sessions at code camps such as Orlando’s, Tampa’s and the recent code camp in Jacksonville which had it’s own SharePoint track! With this upsurge in interest, should people really have to wait until a code camp or another sporadic user group meeting for more SharePoint/Office dev talks? No!
A few months ago John Holliday and I announced the creation of a special interest group (SIG) focused on Microsoft Office development topics as part of the Jacksonville Developer User Group (JAXDUG). We weren’t the only ones working on a Office developer user group/SIG in Florida, Ted Pattison was creating one along with some locals in Tampa, FL. In effort to bring some unity to the Office developer community, we decided to launch (ok, Ted did most of the work) a central site for all Office developers in Florida: Florida Office Geeks (www.FloridaOfficeGeeks.org). Notice the site is running on WSS v3! Ted’s Tampa group, aka the Tampa Office Geeks Association (TOGA) has it’s own site under the Florida Office Geeks site and kicks off with their first meeting on September 25th… if you’re an SharePoint developer, this is a must attend meeting!
JAXDUG Office Developer SIG web site Launches! The JAXDUG Office Developer SIG is also part of this Florida Office Geeks organization. In keeping with the “Office Geeks” theme, we’re also going by the name Jacksonville Office Geeks (JOG)… and we have our own site as well: www.JacksonvilleOfficeGeeks.org (redirect to a subsite under FloridaOfficeGeeks.org). Here you’ll find information about the group, meeting times and meeting location & directions. The site isn’t flooded with content today, but expect that to change over the next few months.
Got ideas for what you’d like to see on the site? Feel free to let John and I know by emailing us @ [email protected]
Come check out the Florida Office Geeks web site… we’ve even got cool logos!
Special thanks to my good friend (and SharePoint UI diva) Heather Solomon for taking the FOG & TOGA artwork and coming up with a logo for the JOG site… you rock sista!
Jacksonville Office Geeks - September 28th Meeting David McNamee, IW Platform Specialist with Microsoft (and all around good guy), is coming up from Tampa to talk about workflow in the next version of SharePoint. But this isn’t just a talk, this is a technical deep dive! Should be a fantastic & exciting talk!
For more information on the meeting such as the abstract of the talk, location & directions… go check out the meeting announcement on the Jacksonville Office Geeks site!comments powered by Disqus
