Should the U.N. run the Internet?

A recent editorial on CNET talks about a recent push by numerous countries to have the United Nations run the internet. Sparing my true feelings about the UN, I firmly say NO. The internet should be controlled (and I use this VERY losely) by a international body, but not by the UN. How would this body be funded? I don’t know. The only responsibility this body should have is controlling the allocation and registration of top level domains. But wait… What’s so wrong with the current state? Yes, ICANN needs to be more independent of the US govt, but moving it to under the UN is a just plain BAD MOVE.
