If you don’t have the Windows Script Host v5.6 installed, when you run through the MCMS Database Configuration Application (DCA), towards the end of the process (either at the very end or in the “Committing changes” step), you’ll get the following error in a message box alert:
Method ‘~’ of object ‘~’ failed.
Aside from being a damn hard error to nail down, it fails the config and will keep showing up until you kill the DCA process NRDCApplication.exe in Task Manager. Stefan’s FAQ has an entry on what the resolution:
Topic: Error message: “Method ‘~’ of object ‘~’ failed”
When the DCA is being run during the installation, I receive the following error message: “Method ‘~’ of object ‘~’ failed”. What is the problem?Answer:This can happen when Windows Script is not installed correctly or the latest version is not installed.
Please re-install the latest version from here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/scripting.
The last two days I was hit with this issue. I had MCMS 2002 + SP1 installed and kept getting the error on my dev box, no matter how many times I tried to install WSH v5.6. Even verified that the correct version was being installed as the c:\windows\system32\cscript.exe file showed it was v5.6.0.. This kept me from attaching my workstation to CMS instance as I couldn’t get my local MCMS installation connected to the shared development MCMS repository.
The only way I was able to fix it was to uninstall all MCMS stuff, install WSH v5.6, and reinstall MCMS 2002 + SP1… specifically:
- uninstall MCMS 2002 SP1
- uninstall MCMS 2002 RTM
- install WSH 5.6
- install MCMS 2002
- install MCMS 2002 SP1
