ASP.NET 2.0 Web Parts in SharePoint... only WSS sites for now...

As previously disclosed, we were supposed to be able to build ASP.NET 2.0 Web Parts for use within SharePoint (WSS & SPS). However, Fitz said today that this won’t be the case… it will only work with WSS, not in SPS.

Once SP2 for WSS is released soon after the .NET 2.0 RTM release on November 7, we’ll be able to build ASP.NET 2.0 Web Parts which we can use within WSS sites. However, the SPS team couldn’t get it working in time… this is quite disappointing.

Just the first bit of news to leak from the PDC… I’m more interested in the new SharePoint v3 stuff! Don’t forget to check out Bill Gates’ keynote tomorrow (Tuesday 8:30a PST)!
