I’m excited and frankly quite flattered, to be invited to be the keynote presenter at SharePoint Saturday Charlotte 2017 ! SharePoint Saturday’s are free events for the community, by the community. I enjoy SharePoint Saturdays as they are a great opportunity to interact with the local community. As with all community events, the socialization during and after the event provides a great opportunity to meet and network with like-minded people. I hope to see you there!
For my keynote, I’ll focus on developers (I know, shocker):
If you have been doing SharePoint development for a few years or for many years, you know the story and guidance changes every so often. Going back to the beginning of SharePoint in early 2000’s, developers have been told to do things differently roughly four different times, even as recently as last year with the SharePoint Framework! How do you make sense of this? How do you best align yourself and skill set to be as marketable, future-proof or future-ready as possible? In this keynote hear Andrew Connell, long time SharePoint developer and MVP share his thoughts with you.
In addition to the keynote, am presenting a breakout session later in the afternoon:
Modern UI Extensions with the SharePoint Framework – Command Sets, Application, and Field Customizers
Microsoft has extended the SharePoint Framework from the initial release of introducing client-side web parts to provide ways to extend the user experience. These new additions enable customizations available in previous development model options in SharePoint. In this session, you will learn about command sets (what you knew as custom actions), field customizers (what you knew as JSLink) and application customizers (which are similar to what you knew as delegate controls). You will see how to use the SharePoint Framework to not just deploy client-side web parts, but also extend the SharePoint user experience with these new capabilities!
