Blog: The Day Microsoft Office Turned into Malware

Last week Microsoft shares news they will be Carbon negative by 2030 which is a great move. Now this week, they totally negate all that good will with an incredibly stupid & arrogant move. Yesterday, those of us who receive Office 365 Message Center notifications via email were greeted with a shocking change coming to a future version of Office ProPlus. Roadmap #59917: Extension of Microsoft Search in Bing to be installed to Office 365 ProPlus customers states that starting with version 2002 of Office 365 ProPlus, Microsoft will automatically and without your consent install a browser extension in Google Chrome & Firefox web browsers that sets your default search engine to Bing.

Blog: Don't mess with ICANN... at least don't let the U.N. get involved

This week the first ever meeting hosted by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union in Tunisia. “One of the goals of the summit is to advance the ‘internationalization’ of what is known as ‘Internet governance’.”1 It is expected at this meeting that there will be pressure on the U.S. delegation from other member countries (such as China, Iran, Libya, the E.U., and others to name a few) and their stance to maintain control over the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a non profit based in the U.

Blog: My recent lack of blogging

In general, you may notice that the last few weeks I haven’t been blogging much. There has been a ton of news related to MCMS 2002 and SharePoint, but I haven’t published it on my blog (like other bloggers are) in recent weeks. I’ve been quite consumed by events inside and outside of work over the last month: worked two 80hr+ weeks leading up to a massive MCMS-SharePoint site implementation, launched said MCMS-SPS site, had our first baby , and my dad went in for emergency quad bypass surgery (2 day’s after my son was born… he’s doing great BTW).

    Blog: South Asia Tsumani

Everyone is talking plenty about it so I won’t rehash it. I will say how truely humbling and sickening all the videos are. It is nice to see some big names jumping into the relief effort like Apple , Amazon , and Microsoft (there’s an internal site for MS employees to give where Microsoft will match their donations [ via Scoble ].

Blog: NHL lockout... the NHLPA just doesn't get it...

Chalk up the NHLPA as another group who just doesn’t get it. Yes, they are supposed to look out for the players, but when the sport is on ice (no pun intentended), how is anyone benefiting? Yesterday the NHLPA proposed a 24% rollback of all salaries … saving owners a boat-load of cash. Great proposal… big problem: it doesn’t solve the problem. In effect, it simply rolls the contracts back a few years… but what keeps them from climbing up again?

Blog: Tony Blair on Meet the Press

This past Sunday (NOV-14), Tony Blair was on NBC’s Meet the Press . I’ve always liked Tony Blair… such a eloquent and intelligent speaker. This was one of the more interesting interviews I’ve seen. I thought the following exchange between Russert & Blair was conveyed some of my deep feelings about the current conflict (video excerpts on the epispode homepage1): MR. RUSSERT: How does President Bush turn around his standing with the British people and with Europe in general?
